Ivan Figueroa-Otero MD focuses his holistic medicine practice in the use of medical acupuncture treatments, as developed in Traditional Chinese Medicine. He uses needles and laser acupuncture for kids and adults alike in the San Juan, Puerto Rico area. His goal is to help patients in their search for total balance, in order to achieve physical, mental & spiritual wellness. This in turn stimulates the reprogramming of their lifestyles, nutrition habits and stress control skills.

The universe is like a big ocean of Qi

ACUPUNCTURE
In Chinese Acupuncture, certain areas of the human body called acupuncture points are stimulated with the purpose of activating the physiological systems in order to maintain health or treat an ailment. Even though needle acupuncture treatments are the most common, they are not the only ones used. Heat, digital pressure, electrical currents, magnets, and laser acupuncture are also widely used.
When the acupuncture points are stimulated the body releases neurotransmitters that regulate the neurological system, thus regulating the patient's whole physiology. Acupuncture plays a modulating role in the nervous, endocrine and immunological systems by inducing the movement of ions throughout the cell membranes. Since the nervous system is fully integrated to all organs within the body, Acupuncture is effective for the vast majority of illnesses or syndromes.
Modern science has demonstrated acupuncture's effectiveness at the molecular level through clinical studies and special measuring equipment. Chinese acupuncture has been increasingly accepted by patients, occidental doctors, international medical associations and public health institutions worldwide. Ivan Figueroa-Otero MD is one of the pioneers of Chinese Acupuncture treatments in Puerto Rico.
